I Timothy Adam re-purposed the original compass design into the now 3D version of the logo. The original logo was first stripped and reversed engineered in Photoshop where the flat image was cut up with paths. Cutting the flat image into layers created holes which is repaired with the stamp/clone tool in Photoshop.
The 3D compass, Earth Planet, Ocean Simulator and Sailing Ship models are animated and executed in 3D Max. The custom textures for the 3D models is created from altered sources layered in Photoshop.
The animated star assets with light effects is done in After Effects. The photos composite in the stars is images granted by CityTv Santa Monica from various original sources. The particles are generated with custom shapes and colors utilizing Trapcode Particular, Starglow and Shine plug-ins. The final composite is executed in After Effects as well.
The Sound Effects and Score are Meagatrax titles. The voice over talent is the creator Timothy Adam. The original voice over script is credit to the production producer Ned Rolsma. The sound editing and effects is done in both Soundbooth and Premiere. The final edit is also executed in Premiere.
